  • The Laval Rocket opened their season on Friday, and while the lineup is certainly loaded with talent, players like Filip Mesar and Jared Davidson were left off the opening-night lineup. It’s worth noting the Rocket play on Saturday as well, which means we might see Mesar in the lineup shortly. [Canadiens Future: Laval Rocket Roster Filled To Brim With Talent]
  • 2023 first-round pick David Reinbacher faced former Habs Jacob de la Rose and Raphael Diaz yesterday, but Reinbacher’s day was cut short after an awkward tumble into the boards. He eventually got up but was absent from the EHC Kloten bench to start the second period. There’s been no word on the severity of the issue yet.

  • The Philadelphia Flyers did a lot of good things in their season-opening 4-2 win Thursday in Columbus. The penalty-kill’s effectiveness was one of them. Philly was 4 for 4 on the new-look PK, with defensive newcomers Marc Staal and Sean Walker among the many contributors. Center Ryan Poehling and right winger Garnet Hathaway, two other newcomers, also helped the penalty kill. [Philadelphia Flyers]
  • After the Pittsburgh Penguins’ first game, the focus was squarely on the 2-0 lead that became a loss after four unanswered goals to a team that should struggle to score four. Yet there are a myriad of other storylines just beginning to unfold surrounding the 2023-24 Kyle Dubas version of the Penguins. [Pittsburgh Penguins]
  • There was a buzz in Newark on Thursday that hadn’t been present for a New Jersey Devils home opener in quite some time. The expectations have been raised and there’s excitement for hockey in New Jersey again. [New Jersey Devils]
  • Forward Robby Fabbri suffered an undisclosed minor injury Thursday and probably won’t play Saturday’s home opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning. “He’s day to day,” Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said. “Not likely for tomorrow, but we hope to have him Monday (at Columbus).” [Detroit Red Wings]
