• The Montreal Canadiens have done a good job in clearing out significant salaries over the last few seasons, but their salary cap outlook is far from ideal. General Manager Kent Hughes has spoken at length about not wanting to strap his club with significant contracts moving forward, outside of signing his young core like Nick Suzuki (by his predecessor) or Cole Caufield. • Dach’s impact on Slafkovsky should not be ignored. The 19-year-old forward may lack consistency, but you’d be hard-pressed to argue his usage last season was anything but inconsistent. • Veterans Josh Anderson, Sean Monahan, and Johnathan Kovacevic stood out in the team’s exciting comeback win over the Leafs. Technically, Kovacevic was a rookie last season, and the veteran tag is questionable, but he plays like a 10-year veteran, and that’s good enough for us.
