Game Preview: Canadiens Aim To Earn Third Straight Win

The Montreal Canadiens (2-1-0) are set to host the Seattle Kraken (2-0-0), with the puck drop scheduled for 7 pm ET.

The game represents the home opener for the Habs, a situation that is likely to incite a passionate response from the Bell Centre faithful, as phenom Lane Hutson signed an eight-year contract extension on Monday, securing his role within the core group of players who are expected to drive the charge for the foreseeable future.

Hutson, 21, agreed to a contract that carries an $8.85 million annual average value (AAV), and while that may seem a little excessive for a young player, it has widely been accepted as a fantastic contract extension by fans and analysts in Montreal, not to mention around the league.

Not only is the salary-cap set to continue it’s recent upward trajectory, Hutson actually left some money on the table when comparing his AAV to other contracts recently signed in the NHL. Hutson is a little younger than his counterparts, which doesn’t work to his favour, but he also registered one of the most productive rookie seasons by a defenceman in NHL history, which speaks to his clear-cut elite potential.

The Canadiens only held an optional practice on Tuesday morning, which means it’s unlikely head coach Martin St-Louis will make any roster changes. If there are any significant lineup changes prior to puck drop, we will update the article with the pertinent information.
