Even though the Habs are yet to sign Lane Hutson, according to Elliotte Friedman, the two parties aren’t that far apart in contract negotiations. Fans can expect Hutson to sign in the “nine-ish” range, which aligns with our offseason projections of the potential annual average value of the contract extension. With just one preseason game left on the docket, the Habs are yet to decide which of the remaining players at camp will earn a roster spot. Given the Canadiens lost the services of Michael Pezzetta and Emil Heineman during the summer, the NHL hopefuls know that their physicality will play a big part in the decision. Habs prospect Logan Sawyer opened the scoring in Providence College’s exhibition game versus Simon Fraser University.

Top prospect Michael Hage also hit the ground running, finishing a very nice play for Michigan University. He would go on to score another goal in the Wolverines’ dominant game versus Mercyhurst.

The Vegas Golden Knights have accomplished almost everything they set out to do this offseason. They kept Reilly Smith and Brandon Saad, and gave Kaedan Korczak a new three-year contract. The Avalanche added a depth defenseman to their roster on Friday, claiming Ilya Solovyov from the Calgary Flames. Solovyov, 25, is listed at 6’3, 208 lbs and was drafted in the seventh round of the 2020 draft by the Calgary Flames. [Colorado Avalanche]
