The NHL’s waiver-wire is picking up steam, as organizations such as the Monreal Canadiens prepare to submit their opening-night rosters.

The Habs placed five players on waivers Sunday, in a bid to send them to the Laval Rocket in the AHL.

Alex Belzile, Nathan Clurman, Lucas Condotta, Sean Farrell, and Marc Del Gaizo all cleared waivers, and will join the long-list of players who are set to participate in the Rocket’s training camp, which opens on Tuesday at Place Bell. Joshua Roy was part of the list that was cut on Saturday, putting an end to his bid to start the season in the NHL. Roy’s entry-level contract expires at the end of the 2025-26 season, putting even more pressure on the young man to thrive in the AHL, and hopefully, make his way back to the Canadiens’ lineup.

The only legitimate claim risk was Farrell, a player who made his mark on Saturday versus the Toronto Maple Leafs by having his best outing of the preseason. Farrell, 23, scored 20 goals and 24 assists in 67 games last season, re-establishing himself as a prospect to watch in the process. The Harvard graduate took a little longer than expected to find his rhythm in the AHL, but once head coach Pascal Vincent took over behind the bench, Farrell, as well as several other prospects, flourished, a testament to Vincent’s ability to get the best out of his players.

Laval is looking to build on their franchise-best season, which saw them lead the entire AHL with an impressive 48-19-3-2 regular-season record.

Players Already Assigned To The Laval Rocket

Vincent Arseneau, Josh Jacobs, Jacob Fowler, Laurent Dauphin, Charles Martin, Benjamin Gaudreau, Jared Davidson, Tobie Bisson-Paquette, Hunter Jones, Will Dineen, Darick Louis-Jean, Kevin Mandolese, Joe Dunlap, Ryan O’Rourke, Mark Estapa, Wyatte Wylie, Egor Goriunov, Riley Kidney, Filip Mesar, Israel Mianscum, Joshua Roy, Xavier Simoneau, Tyler Thorpe, and Luke Tuch.
