Montreal Canadiens News

Slovak forward Filip Mesar was voted as the 20th best Montreal Canadiens prospect by the fans, a ranking that reflects his rather difficult season in the AHL. The good news is that the 2022 first-round pick is overflowing with talent, which means it’s too early to lose hope that he’ll one day be able to ascend to the NHL. There’s no doubt that  3v3 summer shinny lacks the intensity found in NHL games, but it’s always fun to watch top prospect Ivan Demidov at work. As a reminder, it took Demidov a handful of shifts in the NHL to register an assist, followed quickly by his first NHL goal.

Former NHLer Matt Martin discussed the recent Noah Dobson trade, which saw the first-pairing defenceman join the Habs in exchange for a pair of first-round picks and forward Emil Heineman.

Prospect Quentin Miller is definitely taking the path less travelled. He spent two years in the QMJHL with the Rimouski Oceanic and Quebec Remparts before heading to the BCHL to play for the Chilliwack Chiefs. He’s now set to play in the NCAA, joining fellow Canadiens prospect Sam Harris in Denver.

All things were not smooth when the Pittsburgh Penguins traded winger Jake Guentzel in March 2024. The locker room sulked, several opponents pounded the team on the ice, and following the trade, the winger seemed only slightly less salty than the rim of a giant margarita. [Pittsburgh Penguins]

Seth Jones fell in love with hockey as a youngster in the Dallas area, the Stars winning the Stanley Cup in 1999 helping fuel that passion for the sport. Thursday, Jones brought the Stanley Cup back to Dallas — and to the rink where it all began for him. [Florida Panthers]
