Here are the Montreal Canadiens news items, stories, and content you may have missed on Wednesday.

Montreal Canadiens News

The Laval Rocket’s season came to an unfortunate end, a 4-0 series sweep by the Charlotte Checkers in the Eastern Conference Final. Despite the relatively disappointing playoff run, there’s a lot to like when it comes to Montreal’s AHL affiliate. Several players took significant steps forward in their development, with Adam Engstrom standing out on the blue line among defensive prospects. That’s not to say Logan Mailloux and David Reinbacher had poor playoffs, but more time in the AHL may be in order before they’re comfortable playing 82 games in the NHL.[Canadiens Prospects – Coaching & Defencemen In AHL Playoffs]

To be fair, it took the Canadiens four picks to finally land Lane Hutson, but there’s no doubt Seattle scouts missed a gem despite having several appearances at the plate.

Lo(w) and behold, The triple low-five is back! In ECHL form. Speaking of which, the Trois-Rivières Lions now have a 2-1 series lead in the Kelly Cup Final. [ECHL]

The Canadiens will NOT meet Kashawn Aitcheson at the NHL Combine this week. What does this mean? Well, it could mean they’re not interested in drafting him. Or it could be mind games. Or it could be a combination of both. Frankly, the options are endless.

Three Rivers Goalie Luc Cavalin is a having a respectable playoff. In 18 games his save percentage is a plump .943

CH didn’t meet Aitcheson? I hope that does not mean they are not interested. If they can get Bear (a stretch) and Aitcheson with 16 and 17 that would be a home run for me. This team needs to get meaner. And from what I’ve seen these are two of the meanest guys in the first round. If Bear is unavailable, I would pick up Carbonneau. But definitely stay away from Lakovic. Big player with 4 penalty minutes in nearly 60 games is a big red flag.

I dont know about carbonneau. Expecially with the reports floating around. Obviously HuGo will do their due diligence on him but right this second he doesn’t have a very strong repore among GM.. they were not a fan of how he treated his now former agent it was childish and showed a lack of maturity and with Kent hughes being a former agent himself I wouldnt be surprised to see him take the side of a fellow agent and pass on him.

Marc – I’m puzzled , Habs point out Mailloux warts but in the NHL Matheson has the same warts and plays more than 25 mins.per game.

I’ve been asking this question all year ! The media around Montreal has been brutal towards Mailoux while giving a pass to Matheson and using his ice time as an excuse. Mailoux has cleaned up a lot of his defensive lapses and has been a major part of the PK and PP in Laval. Cowen, Maranaro, Wilde and a bunch of french jounalist have been begging to throw him away. Very puzzling in deed.
