Habs Daily: Trading Price’s Contract, Primeau Vs. Fowler, Rohrer

Here are the Montreal Canadiens news items, highlights, and stories you may have missed on Thursday.
Montreal Canadiens News
Nicolas Cloutier over at TVA Sports did some quality digging as to the details of Carey Price’s signing bonus. About a month ago I originally suggested it would be paid out on July 1, which is the case for most bonuses, but Cloutier discovered it’s actually scheduled for September 1. Given that most teams are in a holding pattern a month prior to the start of the season, it reduces the odds the Habs will be able to move Price’s deal and gain some precious financial manoeuvrability in their bid to attract a high-end player. Laval Rocket head coach Pascal Vincent showed great loyalty by letting Cayden Primeau start Game 1 of the North Division Final. But there’s a point of diminishing returns when evaluating loyalty vs. winning, especially in the playoffs. At this point, given the results from both Primeau and Jacob Fowler, it’s probably time to give the heir apparent the crease, at least until Fowler falters. Mike Matheson and Team Canada beat Austria 5-1 at the World Championship, but not before Montreal Canadiens prospect Vinzenz Rohrer scored the first goal of the game, a very nice breakaway goal that displayed his speed and underrated offensive prowess. I expect Rohrer to sign his entry-level contract relatively soon, and then make his way to Laval for the 2025-26 season, but as it stands, he’s not under contract.

Former Hab Sven Andrightetto had a hell of a day at the World Championship. The speedy forward scored four goals for Switzerland during their 5-1 win over Germany. On top of the four-goal effort, Andrighetto scored all four goals consecutively, and I’m not quite sure how to describe his achievement. A supernatural hat trick, plus one? Perhaps an extremely natural baker’s hat trick?
Andrighetto x3! That’s a natural hat trick in Herning! 👏💥🎩 #MensWorlds #IIHF @SwissIceHockey pic.twitter.com/VVOryHdaYE

There are two very important playoff games set to take place later today. First off, Laval will face the Rochester Americans in Game 2 of the North Division Final. But the most important game belongs to the Montreal Victoire, as they’ll attempt to stave off elimination in their second-round series versus the Ottawa Charge. The games are scheduled to start at 7 pm ET, with both teams playing on the road.

When Aaron Ekblad gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead on the Maple Leafs in Game 5, Florida was outshooting Toronto 13-3 at the time. It only got worse for Toronto from there on end. [Florida Panthers]
This is the most difficult pending unrestricted free agent to figure out. The Avalanche and Brock Nelson have only known each other for two months, and there’s no saying, at least right now, how either side feels about the other. [Colorado Avalanche]
