Here are the Montreal Canadiens news items, highlights, and stories you may have missed on Wednesday.

Montreal Canadiens News

It’s much too early to discuss his return to play, but there was some good news on Wednesday, as David Reinbacher, picked fifth overall in 2023, was spotted skating. He was originally expected to miss five to six months, which places his potential return in February or March. [TVA]

The Montreal Canadiens have found a gem in Lane Hutson, and locking him down as soon as possible may quickly become priority Number 1 going into the offseason. [Hutson’s Development Could Impact Canadiens Summer Plans]

The Habs have enjoyed great results in recent weeks, but are they really a legitimate threat to make the playoffs? The stats are improving, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. [Hutson’s Development Could Impact Canadiens Summer Plans]

Since Tony DeAngelo’s contract was terminated by SKA, top prospect Ivan Demidov will replace him at the KHL All-Star Game.

Unsurprisingly, Canadiens prospect Jacob Fowler is likely to be among the top contenders for the Mike Richter Trophy, presented to the top goaltender in the NCAA. For now, he has been named to the ‘Watch List’.

Utah forward Jack McBain will have to pay up for his fairly vicious high stick on Brendan Gallagher during Tuesday’s game.

Emil Heineman was spotted at practice with a brace on his arm, confirming that he does indeed have an upper-body injury, and not a potential broken ankle as his agent hypothesized. [Emil Heineman Involved In Car Accident]

The Pittsburgh Penguins have waived goaltender Tristan Jarry. If he is not claimed by 2 p.m. Thursday, the Penguins plan to assign him to their farm team in Wilkes-Barre, although they would not be obliged to send him there. [Pittsburgh Penguins]

The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline is less than two months away. As we inch closer to it, more and more rumours circulate, and the latest is a doozy. There’s been some chatter around the New Jersey Devils. Although, the Devils are going well and are somewhat in a position to sit and wait. [New Jersey Devils]

Even though the Florida Panthers only had one shot on goal through the first 13 minutes of Tuesday’s game against the New Jersey Devils, coach Paul Maurice “loved” the way his team was playing. [Florida Panthers]

I’m excited for Reinbacher to return to health and debut. He will be an important defender for us long term. I’m not sure there was ever a list of comparable players to him, is Ryan McDonough or Vlassic the type he’s projected to be?

I’m hoping next season we have him, Demidov, Beck and Roy in the lineup and maybe Engstrom and or Mailloux. That should cover the positions available through the TDL sales and guys that walk on expired deals. I don’t expect as much in growing pains as normally associated with this type of transition because Demidov will likely mirror Hutsons performance from this season and contribute significantly. The others have developed in the AHL so are better prepared for tge jump, except David but hopefully he’s a quick study. I suspect they will want him to play both leagues and let his play determine where he plays more.

Any rumors on when we want Fowler to sign and start the next phase of development? I know the Primeau story but no two goalies are the same. With what appears to be a very solid tandem now, there wouldn’t be any rush but what if he’s the best of the three and almost ready to prove it?

I couldn’t agree more about Reinbacher, and your comparison to McDonagh. I really like his first pass out. A non-flashy but essential ingredient on a winning team👍
