Don’t look now, but Patrik Laine is on pace for a 50-goal season despite only featuring in eight games. The Finnish sniper registered his seventh powerplay goal since returning from injury, writing another chapter in what has been a great story, both on and off the ice. Laine’s latest goal overshadowed a rather strong performance from the fourth line, with Jake Evans, Joel Armia, and Emil Heineman driving the play as the Canadiens beat the Red Wings 4-3. You may have noticed I didn’t discuss Alexandre Carrier’s play very much in the recap, because it’s much too early to make any decisive statements about his impact. ICYMI: The Montreal Canadiens are seemingly turning the ship around, but that won’t stop GM Kent Hughes from following his plan. With the core seemingly showing signs of moderate growth, the question then becomes: are the Canadiens going to attempt to sell for the last time come the NHL Trade Deadline? If so, Evans is a likely target to be moved. [Canadiens Pending Free Agents Most Likely To Be Traded]

Here’s your daily reminder that Lane Hutson’s production is otherworldly.

The Laval Rocket beat their rivals, the Belleville Senators, 2-1 on Friday night. Prospect Joshua Roy scored the game-winning goal, marking the 11th time he’s found the back of the net this season in the AHL.
