Canadiens Preview And Lines: Juraj Slafkovsky Set To Return

The Montreal Canadiens (4-4-1) are currently enjoying a two-game winning streak, and they will look to extend it to three as they host the Seattle Kraken (4-4-1) at the Bell Centre on Tuesday. The puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm ET.

Powerplay Prowess

The Habs played back-to-back games over the weekend, which in itself can be a very difficult task. To make matters more interesting, there was travel involved as well. Kirby Dach, who had struggled to find his rhythm in the first few games of the year, scored his first goal of the season on Saturday, and his first NHL goal since March 23, 2023. 24 hours later, the Habs were in Philadelphia to face the Flyers, emerging with a 4-3 win thanks to goals from Jake Evans and Cole Caufield.

On an interesting note, the Habs have scored at least one power play goal in all but one of their games, a reversal of fortunes when it comes to their special teams.

Juraj Slafkovsky will return to the lineup on Tuesday, but he will not play on the team’s top line, his usual assignment. Given how well Dach has played since being promoted to play alongside Caufield and Nick Suzuki, head coach Martin St-Louis has opted to place Slafkovsky on the second line, which is anchored by Alex Newhook. Goaltender Samuel Montembeault will be given the start.

As for the Kraken, they are currently in the midst of a three-game slide, including a 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.

Their lone goal was scored by Jared McCann, who has five goals and 12 points in nine games this season. He’s also currently on a six-game point streak, and has been only held off the scoresheet in two games. Team captain Jordan Eberle leads all Kraken players, with six goals to his name. Joey Daccord is their best option to guard the net, as he secured three of the team’s four wins this season.
