Montreal Canadiens Place Two Players On Waivers
The Montreal Canadiens made their first cuts at training camp following Saturday’s chaotic game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 27 cuts meant that only 32 players were remaining at camp, down from the 59 players who were invited to participate in the first place.

On Sunday afternoon they cut two more players, placing forwards Lucas Condotta and Brandon Gignac on waivers with the goal of reassigning them to the team’s AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket.
Condotta, 26, had a rather tumultuous camp, including when he jumped on heavyweight fighter Nicolas Deslauriers without giving it a second thought. Thankfully for Condotta, Deslauriers did not engage. It was a brave decision that was sure to gain favour with his teammates, as he was responding to a big hit from the former Hab that crumpled defensive prospect Adam Engstrom.

As for Gignac, he is expected to once again serve as one of the Rocket’s best players in the offensive zone. Despite missing time due to a promotion to the NHL, Gignac led Laval in scoring last season with 19 goals and 36 assists in 55 games. He will be joined by a bevy of prospects heading to the AHL to take part in the Rocket’s training camp, which officially opens on Tuesday. Seeing as the Rocket are expected to have young prospects in the lineup, the 26-year-old will also bring an element of leadership to the locker room for new head coach Pascal Vincent.
