Canadiens Rookie Camp List Overflowing With Talented Prospects

Montreal Canadiens prospects

The Montreal Canadiens have revealed the list of 23 players who will be taking part in the team’s rookie camp. The camp is scheduled to open on Wednesday, September 11, and will run until September 17.

It should be noted the prospects will face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs on two occasions, September 14 and 15, at 1 pm ET.

Montreal Canadiens Forward Invites

Owen Beck leads the charge when it comes to noteworthy forwards, as he is one of the few players who may end up having a legitimate chance to earn a job with the team this season. Given his lack of professional experience, Beck may have to spend some time in the AHL before the Canadiens are comfortable with a promotion, but a quick look at his history will provide ample evidence to suggest he’s the type of player who quickly becomes an essential cog in every lineup in which he features.

Beyond Beck, Jared Davidson, Sean Farrell, Emil Heineman, and Riley Kidney will aim to hit the ground running in what could end up being the most important season of their carers. Florian Xhekaj, Luke Tuch, and Filip Mesar are unlikely to start the season in the NHL, however, the rookie camp will present a perfect opportunity to show Laval Rocket head coach Pascal Vincent what they bring to the table.

Complete List Of Forwards: Florian Xhekaj, Filip Mesar, Owen Beck, Jared Davidson, Sean Farrell, Emil Heineman, Riley Kidney, Justin Larose, Israel Mianscum, Logan Nijhoff, Maxime Pellerin, Charles Savoie, Luke Tuch, and Tyler Thorpe.

Montreal Canadiens Defenceman Invites

The Habs will only have seven defencemen in the mix, but you’d be hard-pressed to argue the defensive group will be a weakness, as it will be populated with top prospects such as Adam Engstrom, Logan Mailloux, Lane Hutson, and David Reinbacher.

The Canadiens will have one or two open spots on the blue line, which should lead to a very interesting battle at camp between the top ranked defensive prospects.

It wasn’t so long ago that I only had one prospect to be excited about and that was Cole Caufield. My, how times have changed. Maybe this year they can finally do well against other rookie teams (though it sounds like Toronto will be the only team they are playing). In my dreams, Hutson, Mailloux, Beck and surprise Xhekaj all make the team. Each offering something different. I’m excited.

Samuel Richard is a small goalie, but he is very quick and has very fast reflexes. Last year he wore number 33. I am curious to see how he performs in the rookie games.

I don’t believe Barre-Boulet was brought in with an eye to him making the big team. He may well play some games due to injuries, but I believe he was brought in to help the Rocket rookies acclimate. With him and Gignac there, that’s two pretty good AHL scorers to take the pressure off the rookies to begin.
He’s a hard worker though, he could will his way onto the team with a stellar camp if there’s room, but I think he would need to be twice as good as one of our younger guys to be there opening night.

Well, since we already have a Roy playing forward, I guess it makes sense to have a Richard in net. 😁
