It’s always a good time to take a look at some of the many, many Ivan Demidov highlights from his dominant time in the MHL. Highlights can be a little misleading if they only focus on high quality plays, but the sheer number of lengthy videos featuring multiple excellent plays by Demidov is proof that this is not simply a matter of cherry-picking. ICYMI: We’ve reached the top 10 in our Montreal Canadiens prospect summer rankings, which means we’re discussing some of the most promising young players in the organization, including Michael Hage and Owen Beck. This isn’t Montreal Canadiens news, but as a proud Canadian I’d like to share one of the most impressive performances I’ve seen at the Olympics: Summer McIntosh’s final 50 meters in the 200m individual medley. The call by Radio Canada’s René Pothier et Benoit Huot is also fantastic, even if you’re not fluent in French.

On paper, the Pittsburgh Penguins are not a better team in August than they were in October or April. It will be curious if the team can transfer the positive energy from the April charge toward this season or if it is lost to the summer, but the bigger question will be if Penguins president of hockey operations/GM Kyle Dubas did not make sweeping changes or even significant ones designed to improve the team–How will they improve? Calum Ritchie is aiming to make the Colorado Avalanche this fall. Even if he does and manages to stick past the nine game tryout, there’s always the chance that the team releases him to play in the World Juniors in December. The journey for Ritchie to make that squad began this past week, and the 19 year old impressed at least one prospect analyst with his performance on Saturday. [Colorado Avalanche]
