Habs Daily: Canadiens Claim White, More Waiver Options
Take a look back at the latest Montreal Canadiens news, highlights, and stories you may have missed.
Habs News
- The Habs were quite active on Thursday. The team announced they had claimed Pittsburgh Penguins centre Colin White on waivers. They also placed newly signed forward Brandon Giganc on the waiver wire, hoping to get him to Laval to provide the team’s AHL affiliate with much-needed reinforcements. - In other waiver-related news, the Tampa Bay Lightning placed forward Alex Barre-Boulet on waivers. The 26-year-old has produced over a point per game during his time in the AHL but is yet to get a legitimate opportunity to earn a place on an NHL roster. - White did not have to travel far to join his new team, seeing as the Habs were already in Pittsburgh to face the Penguins. Unfortunately, it was far from a Canadiens debut to remember, as the Penguins beat the Canadiens 4-1. The Habs held an advantage in quality scoring chances, but they succumbed to their fatigue in the second half of the game. [Tired Canadiens Fail To Capitalize On Their Chances In Pittsburgh]
- Elliotte Friedman briefly mentioned the Canadiens in the latest edition of 32 Thoughts. He indicated Canadiens defenceman David Savard is not interested in leaving Montreal. [32 Thoughts]

- We’re just over two weeks away from the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline and the rumour mill is certainly churning. The New Jersey Devils are in desperate need of goaltending. In fact, the Devils have rookie Isaac Poulter backing up Nico Daws against the New York Rangers on Thursday. Poulter just signed his first NHL contract one week ago. And in net, Daws is starting his sixth straight game with Vitek Vanecek on the injured reserve. As a result, Dawson Mercer’s name has come up in plenty of trade speculation. [New Jersey Devils]

If Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny has one fan, his head coach, John Tortorella, is one of them. The Flyers needed Konecny’s marvellous solo effort to help lift them to victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night, but nobody was quite expecting what Konecny had in his locker for the goal. Not even Tortorella.[Philadelphia Flyers]
- Pittsburgh Penguins president Kyle Dubas had the same thought as many of us. The team needed a shakeup and needed a trade. Dubas addressed that possibility as well as Jake Guentzel’s future, Mike Sullivan’s requests, and why you should not expect to see a tear it down, burn it down, rebuild.[Pittsburgh Penguins]
