Here’s all the latest Montreal Canadiens news, highlights, and stories you may have missed Thursday.

Habs News

  • According to Elliotte Friedman, Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes is sticking to his guns when it comes to the availability of his goaltenders on the NHL’s trade market. The Habs aren’t the only team with an available goaltender, but they aren’t in any hurry to move one, either. Hughes set a price and is waiting for a team to meet it. • There was some good news ahead of the game against the Buffalo Sabres. Forward Josh Anderson will not miss any time despite leaving Tuesday’s game in considerable pain. Rafael Harvey-Pinard was also spotted at practice, but he’s not ready to return to the lineup just yet. [Canadiens Game 38: Encouraging Injury Update For Anderson]
  • Unfortunately, not all the health updates were encouraging. Centre Christian Dvorak will miss the remainder of the season with a torn pectoral muscle. • Nick Suzuki received yet another well-deserved invite to the All-Star festivities. The Canadiens captain will participate in this fourth All-Star weekend, his third as a proper All-Star. [Nick Suzuki Named to All-Star Team]
  • The Habs were let down by their special teams versus the Sabres, however, Joel Armia did manage to score an excellent shorthanded goal. [Habs Let Down By Special Teams Versus Buffalo]
  • For the second season in a row, Habs prospect Owen Beck will join a new team after playing for Canada at the 2024 World Junior Championship. Beck is expected to be traded from the Peterborough Petes to the Memorial Cup host, the Saginaw Spirit. [Habs Prospect Owen Beck Involved In OHL Trade]
  • Despite a slow start by his standards, Lane Hutson was named as one of Team USA’s players of the tournament at the World Juniors. Hutson and Team USA will face Sweden on Friday to compete for the gold medal.

  • Buffalo Sabres forward Kyle Okposo did not face the Canadiens because he is out week-to-week with a lower-body injury, according to the team. The team captain was injured in Buffalo’s last game against Ottawa but “gutted it out” according to head coach Don Granato. [Buffalo Sabres]
  • Pittsburgh Penguins blue-collar winger Matt Nieto has undergone laparoscopic surgery on his right knee and is expected to be sidelined for 6-8 weeks. Nieto, 31, has one goal and three assists in 22 games this season. The Penguins signed him as a free agent last July. [Pittsburgh Penguins]
  • The New Jersey Devils continue to look for a goaltender, but Habs netminder Jake Allen is not the only one in play. They have a few options on the NHL’s trade market. [New Jersey Devils]
