Canadiens Game 37: Habs Aim To End Road Trip On Positive Note

The Montreal Canadiens (15-16-5) will face the Dallas Stars (22-9-4) at American Airlines Center on Tuesday. The puck drop is scheduled for 8 pm ET.

Martin St-Louis’ team will look to break a three-game losing streak as they close out their lengthy seven-game holiday road trip. It’s always a difficult stretch in the schedule for the Canadiens, one that often leaves the team with little to no momentum in the New Year.

To beat Dallas, the Canadiens will have to receive an honest effort from every line and every defensive pairing. In other words, they need to work as a cohesive unit rather than 21 individuals.

They’ll also have to count on more than just the top line, which has looked very good since Juraj Slafkovsky joined Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki, to provide offence.

Defenceman Mike Matheson leads the team in scoring with six points over the last five games, which paints a perfect picture when it comes to the team’s offensive woes. Only three NHL teams (San Jose, Chicago, and Anaheim) have scored fewer goals than the Habs this season.

As for the Stars, they’re enjoying the fruits of their previous NHL Draft labour.

Jason Robertson leads the team in scoring with 11 goals and 25 assists, followed closely by Roope Hints, who has 15 goals and 18 assists.

Miro Heiskanen continues to be a dominant force according to most important metrics, though his impact is not limited to underlying numbers. The high-flying defenceman has four goals and 22 assists this season.

Dallas is one of the strongest teams in the Western Conference and is slowly yet surely turning the corner toward becoming a Stanley Cup contender. In other words, they will present quite a challenge for the Canadiens to overcome.
