GOTTA SEE IT: Canadiens Hutson Scores Great Goal Off Rush

Montreal Canadiens prospect Lane Hutson continues to impress at the 2023 World Championship. He was left off the USA’s roster for their matchup against France but quickly returned to the spotlight the next game.

The USA got off to a difficult start in their matchup against Sweden, finding themselves down 1-0 early thanks to a clean one-timer by 2023 Top Prospect Leo Carlsson.

The Americans rallied quickly thanks to goals from Pittsburgh’s centre Nick Bonino and Vancouver Canucks winger Connor Garland.

And then it was Hutson time.

Hutson scored his second tournament goal on Tuesday, putting his anticipation, speed, and shot on full display to give Team USA a 3-1 lead over Team Sweden.

Hutson, 19, has not been given a surplus of ice time by Team USA, which is par for the course considering he’s one of the youngest players on the roster, but despite not featuring on very many powerplays, he’s earned two goals and three assists in six games.

And though his second goal was quite nice, it paled in comparison to the first time he found the back of the net at the tournament, a ridiculous individual effort for Team USA versus Austria.

Much has been made about Hutson’s stature in relation to his NHL potential.

To some, his size is simply too big of a hurdle to overcome, but given how well he’s played at every point in his career, including his recent play for Team USA at the World Championship, it’s starting to become clear the 2022 second-round pick has the talent necessary to make an impact once he makes the jump to professional hockey with the Montreal Canadiens.

Simply put, Lane Hutson excels at every level.

Hutson is set to return to Boston University next season, where he’ll look to build upon the momentum he created during his rookie season. The elite defensive prospect finished seventh in points among NCAA players last season.
