Canadiens Prospects Making The Most Impact With Laval Rocket

AHL data is rather difficult to come by, which makes analyzing the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, somewhat complicated.

Traditional data offers an insight into the real story, but in the grand scheme of things, it is nothing but a cursory glance.

However, thanks to some great work by AHL Tracker and Thibaud Chatel, we can now delve further into the workings of the Rocket.

By The Numbers

Win shares, or point shares, are a metric to measure a player’s impact in both defensive and offensive contributions, levelling the playing field to accommodate all the different roles and responsibilities on various teams.

When it comes to the top contributors on the Rocket roster, unsurprisingly, both Emil Heineman and Anthony Richard lead the pack. Heineman’s sample size is rather small, but with seven goals and two assists in just 11 games, his offensive impact is impossible to ignore.

Richard follows closely, thanks to a great season that saw him score 30 times despite spending a significant portion of the schedule in the NHL with the Canadiens.

As for the rest of the Laval Rocket leaders in win shares, names like Nicolas Beaudin, Rem Pitlick, Justin Barron, and Alex Belzile are to be expected.

However, Pierrick Dube’s name is a surprise.

Relatively speaking.

Those who have watched the Rocket will agree, Dube is the type of player that puts forth a sustained effort during every shift, which has led to an impressive, if not underrated production rate in the AHL.

Dube does not have an NHL contract, but given his performance in the 2022-23 AHL season, it’s worth investigating the possibility of offering him an NHL deal.

After all, the goal of an AHL team is not to develop All-Star players on a regular basis.

Realistically, it should serve as a conduit for depth players, which may very well be the case for Dube.
