National Hockey Now News

  • Good news for Avalanche fans on Tuesday morning, as Cale Makar was back on the ice in a non-contact jersey. He skated before practice with skills coach Shawn Allard, getting back into a rhythm. As far as we know, this is the first time he’s skated since playing last Saturday. [Colorado Avalanche]
  • Alex Nylander has put more than a few miles on his car in the last month. The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled him five times and demoted him four times since March 7. Each of those transactions comes with a four-hour drive. There was last Thursday when he was recalled at around 2 p.m., and arrived at PPG Paints Arena a few hours later carrying a full package of sticks. He was sent back to the WBS Penguins an hour later.[Pittsburgh Penguins]
  • Another day, another callup for the floundering Philadelphia Flyers. They recalled defenseman Adam Ginning from the AHL’s Phantoms on Tuesday. He was in the lineup when the Flyers, losers of seven straight, hosted the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. [Philadelphia Flyers]
  • Despite an overtime loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Florida Panthers control their playoff destiny. [Florida Panthers]
  • Evidently, Ontario Hockey League coaches find the composure of Detroit Red Wings prospect Amadeus Lombardi to be quite impressive. When it comes to the ways in which Amadeus conducts himself on the ice, they are equally enamoured with the tune he’s been playing. [Detroit Red Wings]
  • The Vegas Golden Knights have signed goaltender Jesper Vikman to a three-year entry-level contract that will begin next season. Vikman has previously been on a tryout agreement with the Henderson Silver Knights of the AHL, where he will likely finish the season. [Vegas Golden Knights]
  • The bad news is that the Boston Bruins confirmed that David Krejci (lower body) will be shut down for the rest of the regular season and will miss the final two games scheduled for the B’s this week. [Boston Bruins]
