Montreal Canadiens prospect Logan Mailloux

Montreal Canadiens prospect Logan Mailloux had himself an exciting Saturday night, posting his first career OHL hat trick in spectacular fashion.

The 19-year-old defenceman has been finding his pace of late in the OHL with the London Knights in his first full season of junior.

Logan Mailloux has shown some impressive offensive flashes, especially when it comes to his shot, but has also begun to display more consistency in the defensive zone.

He’s also been a good teammate for the London Knights, jumping in to protect his teammates and ensuring that no liberties are being taken while he’s on the ice.

Although it has been a good bounce-back year for the former 31st overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, Habs fans were waiting for something spectacular from their prospect; and they got it on Saturday night.

In a route of the Eerie Otters, Mailloux was able to net his first hat trick in major junior, and he capped it off in style by successfully pulling off the Michigan.

It left everyone in awe, including the Eerie Otter’s announcer:

It was a special night for the Canadiens prospect, as his three goals on Saturday night brought his totals to 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points in 39 games so far this season.

Although the points-per-game numbers may not come off as initially impressive, Mailloux’s goal-scoring feat is amongst the best in the OHL, currently tied for second with 16-year-old phenom Zayne Parekh and one goal back of Anaheim Ducks’ 1st-rounder Pavel Mintyukov.

Mailloux’s defensive game also also improved considerably; playing a more structured game in his own zone and contributing to the quick offensive transition game the Knights like to play.

As he prepares to turn pro next year, games like these will give him the necessary confidence and momentum to take the next step in his career.

Although Mailloux does have much more development in front of him before he can put on the Montreal Canadiens sweater on a regular basis, nights like these are what give Canadiens fans hope that the best is yet to come.
