Montreal Canadiens trade proposals

MONTREAL — There’s never a dull moment when it comes to the Montreal Canadiens, but many fans lead a very busy life, meaning it’s not always possible to keep up to date with every news story.

But don’t worry, we’re here to help!

Every Sunday we will recap the most exciting and relevant news stories that you may have missed throughout the week.

Monday

  • Even if the Canadiens don’t win the Bedard lottery, there is a long list of intriguing targets they could be looking at for the 2023 NHL Draft.
  • The Canadiens have had interesting players available on waivers, but have chosen against making a claim for a few important reasons. Here’s why the Canadiens haven’t used waivers.
  • Kent Hughes gave his take on the idea of calling up one of their CHL-based prospects due to an emergency injury situation.

Tuesday

  • Josh Anderson has been finding the back of the net with more regularity, and that’s great news as the NHL Trade Deadline quickly approaches.
  • Habs prospects Lane Hutson, Sean Farrell, and Jakub Dobes were all nominated for the Hobey Baker Award. The league will announce the 10 finalists for the award on March 15th, and the official award winner on April 7.
  • We covered a variety of topics in this week’s edition of the Canadiens Mailbag, including where Sean Monahan should play, Juraj Slafkovsky’s rookie season, potential trades, prospects, Hutson, Farrell and Logan Mailloux’s future, and other Habs topics.
  • Kirby Dach and Samuel Montembeault stood tall in a hard-fought game against the Boston Bruins.

Wednesday

  • Cole Caufield is, unfortunately, out for the season, but his agent, Pat Brisson, clarified his injury status, rehab process and gave some insight into contract negotiations.
  • Kirby Dach has been the developmental story of the year for the Montreal Canadiens, but, with a return to centre, he may only be scratching the surface of his potential.
  • Life is good if you’re a Canadiens prospect. This week we saw fantastic performances from several of the top players in the prospect pool, with a new player earning the top spot on the list for the second week in a row.
  • Canadiens prospect Filip Mesar has had a busy season, but he remains focused on his development and growth; a process the Canadiens have followed closely.

Thursday

  • Several Montreal Canadiens Draft targets participated in the CHL’s 2023 Top Prospects Game.
  • Head coach Martin St-Louis discussed the challenges involved in running an unbalanced roster.
  • Despite being one of the Canadiens’ most reliable and consistent defencemen this season, rookie Johnathan Kovacevic was a healthy scratch against the Detroit Red Wings.
  • Red Wings results
  • Prospect Emil Heineman turned on the jets and scored a great end-to-end goal for Leksand.
  • Rafael Harvey-Pinard stood out as a dominant presence in the Canadiens’ 4-3 overtime loss to the Red Wings.
  • Kirby Dach dropped the gloves with Andrew Copp, who was looking for a fight. He chose…poorly.
  • As previously reported, the Colorado Avalanche are still interested in Canadiens forward Sean Monahan. Take a look at some of the potential returns if a trade were to occur.

Friday

  • The Canadiens announced OHL standout Owen Beck was recalled on an emergency basis. The Port-Hope native is expected to make his NHL debut against the Ottawa Senators.
  • Pierre-Luc Dubois has been linked to the Canadiens throughout the year, but patience may be in order when it comes to a potential trade.
  • Cole Caufield addressed the media on Friday, discussing the details of his surgery, as well as the expected recovery time.
  • Always the joker, despite not being able to jump on the ice, Caufield went with a particularly stylish approach at practice.
  • Rafael Harvey-Pinard has stolen the show since his call-up from the Laval Rocket, but his fantastic play has overshadowed the great results from linemate Alex Belzile.

Saturday

  • Despite early hesitancy from Kent Hughes, a particular set of circumstances allowed the Canadiens to recall Owen Beck from the OHL. Here’s why those circumstances favoured Beck over other prospects and why the timing was right.
  • With all the injuries the Montreal Canadiens have had to deal with this season, one can’t be blamed for getting a sense of déjà vu.
