Three Canadiens Prospects Nominated For Hobey Baker

The Montreal Canadiens are blessed with a very strong prospect pool.
But there’s one player that has stood out among the talented crowd, thanks to an excellent rookie season that has captivated the attention of Habs fans dreaming of the future.
Lane Hutson was named the Hockey East Rookie Of The Week for the third time this season, owing to a one-goal and four-assist effort in back-to-back games against Maine.
Hutson earned the same accolade in late October and late December.

The Canadiens are fortunate to own a very deep prospect pool, littered with talent at all positions, however, few players come close to matching Hutson’s potential.
Hutson has scored nine goals and 18 assists in just 22 games for the Boston University Terriers, including four game-winning goals, the third-best result for any NCAA player this season.
He also leads all defencemen in scoring this season.
In addition to this week’s award, Hutson was named the Hockey East Defender of the Month in October and November, not to mention the Hockey East Player of the Week in late November.

Unsurprisingly, Hutson was also nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the country’s top NCAA men’s hockey player.
He’s joined by fellow Canadiens prospects Sean Farrell, who has one of the best points-per-game ratios in the league, and Jakub Dobes, who has maintained sparkling statistics as Ohio State’s starting goaltender.
#Habs Sean Farrell explodes for a 4 point night (1 G, 3 A) in a 11-2 win over USNTDP. Farrell has now totaled 29 PTS (10 G, 19 A) in 16 GP. He's registered a point in every game this season except on Nov 21st. pic.twitter.com/A1onqjAIr4

Four factors are considered when voting for the Hobey Baker Award:
- Strength of character, on and off the ice
- Contribution to the integrity of the team and outstanding skills in all phases of the game
- Scholastic achievement and sportsmanship
- Compliance with all NCAA rules, including being a full-time student in an accredited college or university and completing 50 percent or more of the season
NCAA fans can vote for their preferred winner by visiting this website. The 10 finalists will be announced on March 15th, with the award being handed out on April 7th.
The Hobey Baker Award was last won by a Canadiens prospect in 2019 when Cole Caufield took home the trophy thanks to a 30-goal, 22-assist season with the University of Wisconsin.
