Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price attracted a lot of attention following a statement on social media this week.

Price’s initial comment voiced his displeasure with the upcoming Bill-C21, which is looking to restrict access to certain firearms in Canada.

Price, an avid fan of hunting and fishing, took to Instagram with the following comment.

“I love my family. I love my country and I care for my neighbour. I am not a criminal, or a threat to society. What @justinpjtrudeau is trying to do is unjust. I support the @ccfr_ccdaf to keep my hunting tools. Thank you for listening to my opinion.”

Price tagged a gun rights group called The Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights, which recently used a promotional code on its website that linked to the Ecole Polytechnique massacre, which took place on Dec.6, 1989.

Customers who used the code ‘POLY’ were offered a 10 percent discount on their purchase.

The massacre, which took place in Montreal, was one of the worst gun-violence episodes in the country.

It predictably drew a lot of attention on social media, which led to a response by Price, who said he did not agree with the promotional code.

The Canadiens also released a statement, which included a donation to the ‘Week of the White Rose‘ campaign.

In the statement, the Canadiens say Price was unaware of the promotional code, nor was he aware he made his statement today on the eve of the day on which the massacre took place in 1968.

The Canadiens went on to apologize “to any and all those who have been offended or upset by the discourse that has arisen over this matter in recent days.”

Canadiens owner Geoff Molson was in Vancouver for the third game of the Canadiens’ road trip but chose not to address the media in the wake of the comments.
