Canadiens Rookies Will Play In Sabres Rookie Tournament
Montreal Canadiens fans should get their first look at 2022 NHL Draft top pick overall Juraj Slafkovsky in NHL exhibition action at the 2022 Buffalo Sabres Prospects Challenge in mid-September.
The Prospects Challenge features rookies, prospects and draft picks from the Montreal Canadiens, the Buffalo Sabres, the New Jersey Devils, the Ottawa Senators, the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins. All teams involved will play three games. Unfortunately, the Montreal Canadiens and their bitter arch-rivals, the Boston Bruins will not square off against each other.
Rookie camp for the Montreal Canadiens will kick off on Wednesday, September 14. Canadiens rookies and prospects will report for medicals and physical testing at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard.
Laval Rocket head coach Jean-François Houle and his staff will handle the coaching duties for the games in Buffalo and practices.
In addition to Juraj Slafkovsky, here’s a list of notable Canadiens rookie prospects you can expect to play in Buffalo:
Filip Mesar
Joshua Roy
Riley Kidney
Kaiden Guhle
Emil Heineman
Arber Xhekaj
Owen Beck
This is the first time in the history of the Prospects Challenge, the Buffalo Sabres will be joined by five other teams to compete in a round-robin challenge featuring prospects from each team. The 2022 Prospects Challenge will mark the seventh edition of the tournament, which began in 2015 with Buffalo, Boston and New Jersey. There will be a total of 14 first-round selections from the last two drafts. The Canadiens and the Devils selected first and second overall, respectively, at the 2022 NHL Draft.
