NHL Trade

Are the Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadiens about to become dance partners on the NHL trade market?

Could Canadiens veteran winger and leader Brendan Gallagher be part of Kent Hughes’ grand plan for the Habs?

That and more in the MHN Canadiens Wrap:

Montreal Canadiens

Montreal Canadiens winger Brendan Gallagher has been the subject of NHL Trade rumours but it sure sounds like general manager Kent Hughes could see him being part of his out-of-the-box rebuild.

The Carolina Hurricanes are looking for help on their blue line ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline and they’re scouting the Montreal Canadiens who are openly entertaining trade offers for defencemen Jeff Petry and Ben Chiarot. Hmmmm….

National Hockey Now

BOS: The Boston Bruins remain in the NHL trade sweepstakes for Arizona Coyotes defenceman Jakub Chychrun but they have some stiff competition.

NYI: The New York Islanders showed leadership in their first in-person media availability after a tough 5-4 loss to the Colorado Avalanche Monday.

Pittsburgh: Can Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Ron Hextall address the team’s biggest need by the March 21 NHL Trade Deadline?

Philly: The Philadelphia Flyers have recalled defenceman Cam York.

Washington: Because I think the world of my colleague Sammi Silber at WHN, I’m linking her story on Putin’s Puppet. …I mean Alexander Ovechkin, so she gets the clicks. Other than that I could care less about his goal-scoring record chase. Unless he stops supporting Vladimir Putin before he breaks Wayne Gretzky’s goal-scoring record, it will be a black mark in the NHL record book.

Detroit: After allowing 45 goals in their last eight games, the Detroit Red Wings can pretty much kiss any chance they had of making the Stanley Cup playoffs goodbye.

Colorado: Should the Colorado Avalanche be worried as the NHL Trade Deadline approaches?

Vegas: How will losing to an inferior team like the Philadelphia Flyers affect the NHL Trade Deadline approach for the Vegas Golden Knights?

San Jose: What do NHL teams interested in San Jose Sharks defenceman Jacob Middleton think of his game?

Canada Hockey Now

Vancouver: As our colleague in Vancouver, Rob Simpson, pointed out, Canucks defenceman Quinn Hughes has grown leaps and bounds as an NHLer this season.

Not sure about you, but I cannot wait for Edmonton Oilers fans to absolutely shower Ovechkin with boos when the Capitals play there Wednesday night. Edmonton has the biggest Ukrainian population in Canada and seeing a man, that yes, despite what some believe, has a chance to influence change but doesn’t, has to be a slap in their collective face.

Congrats to my friend and former classmate at St. Sebastian’s High School (Needham, MA), Mike Grier, for being named assistant general manager of USA Hockey men’s team at the 2022 World Championships in Helsinki, Finland.
