The Montreal Canadiens announced that goaltender Carey Price has officially begun resuming on-ice training. Price has gone through a few setbacks this season in his quest to rehab his surgically repaired knee, and things look to be headed in the right direction finally.

It’s been a tough road to recovery for Price, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery this summer due to a torn meniscus. The Montreal Canadiens goaltender also sought some personal help by bravely entering the NHL’s player assistance program last fall right before training camp. Although this was the right the decision for Price’s mental health, it further delayed his rehabilitation.

However, Price felt the support from the fans right from the start of this process and used it as motivation.

“I’ve had quite the journey at the start of the season,” said Price during his press conference on Jan 30. “It would have been a lot more difficult if I hadn’t had such a warm sense of encouragement from everyone.”

Once Price felt he was ready to undertake his rehab in November, he was met with further delays, suffering a few setbacks each time he began to resume on-ice training. The process was further delayed due to the Omicron Covid-19 variant swooping across the world, forcing the province of Quebec to lock down sports facilities.

However, now that restrictions began being lifted in late January, Price was motivated to get back to playing hockey as quickly as possible.

“I’m a little bit anxious for the next couple of weeks; it’s going to be interesting to see how my knee responds,” said Price. “I’m hoping for the best. I obviously want this to go well, and if I have another setback, I’m just gonna start over again. That’s the only option that I have.”

With Carey Price returning to on-ice training, there is certainly reason to hope that the Montreal Canadiens’ franchise player could start a game before the end of the season. It’s a pretty safe bet to never bet against Carey Price, and this is no different.
