Canadiens Wrap: Letang To Habs Chatter, Hertl, NHL Trade Rumours

NHL Trade

While Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang is unlikely to be traded before the March 21 NHL trade deadline, he still finds himself once again engulfed in rumours that he will soon play for the Montreal Canadiens. Given the current circumstances though, these new rumours seem to have some legs.

San Jose Sharks center Tomas Hertl could definitely be a fit for the Montreal Canadiens out-of-the-box rebuild but is he really on the NHL Trade market?

The hockey world and the world, in general, continue to rally behind Ukraine and denounce Russia.

That and more in the MHN Canadiens Wrap:

Montreal Canadiens

Could the longstanding ‘Letang to the Canadiens’ rumours actually come to fruition this summer if and when Kris Letang becomes an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career?

Are the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens engaged in NHL trade talks?

As I opined last week, my partner-in-scribe at MHN, Marco D’Amico, agrees that Josh Anderson cannot be traded before the NHL Trade Deadline and is captain material.

The Calgary Flames and the Habs hooked up on the NHL trade market again Wednesday.

National Hockey Now

Boston: Early Tuesday evening, TSN Insider Pierre LeBrun reported that not only does Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk still want to be traded but the Bruins are willing to sign him to an extension to increase his value on the NHL Trade market in an effort to accelerate the process.

Pittsburgh: Brian Boyle has been the perfect fit for a resurgent Pittsburgh Penguins team this season.

Detroit: While numerous Detroit Red Wings players continue to be bantered around in NHL trade rumors, the Wings continued to cling onto their slim playoff hopes with a dramatic 4-3 overtime win over the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday.

Colorado: Cool story by Kelsey Hammond on Jack Johnson’s best friend being there for his 1,000th game Tuesday and a 5-3 win for the Colorado Avalanche over the New York Islanders.

San Jose: So is San Jose Sharks center Tomas Hertl on the NHL trade market or not?

Vancouver: Our man in VAN, Rob Simpson, delved deeper into the NHL trade rumors surrounding the Vancouver Canucks. What’s the scoop on J.T. Miller?

Friend of BHN, Spector, has more on the Vancouver Canucks trade rumors.

How amazing was this? Hoosli, a Ukrainian male chorus, performed the national anthem prior to puck drop between the Jets and Canadiens in Winnipeg.

Ukrainian NHL player agent Dan Milstein told Geno Reda of TSN that plenty of his Russian and Belarusian clients and their families are receiving threats due to their lack of support for the Russian invasion in Ukraine or opposition to Russia.

Milstein has also taken to the forefront in the fight for Russian and Belarusian hockey players to still be able to take part in the CHL import draft.

If you haven’t been following him since the Russians invaded Ukraine, I highly suggest you do so because Gord Miller is doing an amazing thing by getting the truth on the invasion and what people on the ground are experiencing out there.

Finally, here’s your Irish track of the day. In honor of all the Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war in their homeland and looking for shelter, here’s a Pogues favorite of mine:

“Thousands are sailing
Across the western ocean
To a land of opportunity
That some of them will never see
Fortune prevailing
Across the western ocean
Their bellies full
Their spirits free
They’ll break the chains of poverty
And they’ll dance”
