Canadiens Wrap: The Canadiens’ Rebuild, Habs, NHL Trade Rumours

NHL Trade

The Montreal Canadiens have already begun their out-of-the-box rebuild on the NHL trade market but what will the rest of the process look like?

Is Boston Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk’s value on the NHL trade market the highest it’s ever been?

That and more in the latest BHN Bruins Wrap:

BOS: After notching his first NHL hat trick and adding an assist in a 7-0 win for the Bruins, will the value on the NHL trade market for Jake DeBrusk ever be higher? The Bruins winger, who requested a trade earlier in the season now has a five-game point streak going with seven goals and two assists over that span.

While some delusional North American sports fans praise anti-vaccine athletes like Kyrie Irving and Aaron Rodgers as freedom fighters, former Bruins forward and NHLer Dmitri Khristich showed the world what a real hero and freedom fighter is by joining his fellow Ukrainians in the armed resistance against Russia.

NYI: The New York Islanders never wanted to place Devon Toews on the NHL trade market just prior to the 2020-21 season but cap restrictions forced them to. The Colorado defenceman will face his former team for the first time since the trade and our man on the Island, Stefen Rosner takes a look at how Toews has performed since being dealt by the Isles.

Philly: When the Philadelphia Flyers rocked the NHL trade market last summer and acquired defenceman Ryan Ellis in a three-way trade with the Nashville Predators and Vegas Golden Knights, it looked like the Flyers would have one of the best blue lines in the NHL this season. Instead, Ellis has played just four games, the Flyers defense has been a mess and now Ellis is likely done for the season.

Washington: The Washington Capitals made another free agent signing on Tuesday.

Florida: Former Boston Bruins and UMass-Amherst winger Frank Vatrano is looking to find a regular spot back in the Florida Panthers lineup.

Detroit: The New York Rangers are scouring the NHL Trade market for a defenceman. Could they find one on the Detroit Red Wings blue line?

San Jose: Russian NHLers are facing death threats when they speak out against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Vancouver: Former Montreal Canadiens goalie Jaro Halak is mired in one of the worst slumps of his career as a backup goalie for the Vancouver Canucks.

Calgary: Add the Calgary Flames to the list of Stanley Cup contenders looking for defensive depth on the NHL trade market.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are the latest Cup contender linked to Chicago Blackhawks goalie Marc-Andre Fleury in NHL trade rumours.

The Chicago Blackhawks have a new general manager.
