NHL Trade

Did the Montreal Canadiens and Calgary Flames discuss a bigger deal that could’ve shook the NHL trade market even more?

With a player like Tyler Toffoli moving on the NHL trade market for what he did, set the price for a team to acquire Vancouver Canucks center J.T. Miller?

Sidney Crosby finally hit the 500-goal mark on Tuesday and added to an already illustrious and hall of fame career.

More NHL Trade rumors and all the latest around the National Hockey Now network in the latest Canadiens Wrap:

Montreal Canadiens

Prior to the Flames-Canadiens trade Monday, I tweeted that the two teams were discussing a bigger trade that involved Habs defenseman Ben Chiarot and Flames prospect Matthew Coranato.

In the latest edition of TSN Insider Trading on Tuesday night, TSN Insider Darren Dreger confirmed that the two teams did indeed discuss a larger trade that would have seen Habs defenseman Ben Chiarot go to Calgary with Tyler Toffoli. My sources are telling me that the Canadiens’ insistence on higher-end prospects like Coronato, scared the Flames off.

Forward Tyler Toffoli was always the focus from Calgary’s perspective, but there was a willingness to consider a bigger trade involving a defenceman, namely Ben Chiarot,” Dreger reported. “But when you look at how significant that transaction would be from Montreal’s standpoint, they got a haul for Toffoli including a prospect and a first-round draft pick.  So you know Chiarot, as the market unfolds for Montreal, is going to require a first-round draft pick coming back as well.

At that point over the weekend, it got a little bit too rich for the Flames. I do believe that Flames general manager Brad Treliving will try to add a least another depth defenceman and maybe another depth forward.”

How will the Toffoli trade affect other NHL teams who are interested in acquiring a high-end player with term left on their contract like Vancouver Canucks center J.T. Miller on the NHL trade market?

Who will the Montreal Canadiens move next on the NHL Trade market? Lots of teams have interest in forward Christian Dvorak?

Canadiens goalie Carey Price has paused on the skating portion of his rehab.

Sidney Crosby added his 500th goal to his mantle of amazing accomplishments.

As I aspired to be a hockey journalist, I read Adrian Dater and Terry Frei religiously for Colorado Avalanche and NHL news and rumors. About halfway through my career, I met AD and after ten years, I consider him a friend. The fact I’m colleagues with him and Terry now is pretty damn cool too. As he always has been, Dater is still the most connected Avs writer out there and he’s been all over the Giroux to Colorado NHL trade rumors.

So if not the Avs, who are the other two teams Giroux is willing to waive his no-movement clause for to let the Flyers move him before the NHL trade deadline?

Our (Colby) GUY in FLA addresses the latest NHL trade rumors surrounding the Florida Panthers and other topics on the Cats.

I’m sorry but I’ve lost all respect for New York Rangers great – and I’m not afraid to say it – stud, Ron Duguay now that he’s dating Sarah Palin. Dude! Really?

So is San Jose Sharks center Tomas Hertl on the NHL Trade Market or not?

So apparently Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane is angry at the Blackhawks for heading towards a rebuild? I’m sorry Patty, but have they not done enough cover-ups over the years for you to not be a baby right now? If you want out, then just say it because you could really help that rebuild if you’re willing to waive your NMC and be moved on the NHL trade market!

More and more it seems like it was a no-brainer for the Calgary Flames to acquire Toffoli from the Habs on the NHL trade market?

The Vancouver Canucks could be playing in front of a full house at Rogers Arena by Saturday.

I’ve been there before. A trusted source gives you what you think is a great scoop and not only does it turn out to be false but a general manager publicly and vehemently shoots it down.

That was the case for Daily Faceoff Insider Frank Seravalli on Tuesday when he said that the Vegas Golden Knights were interested in reacquiring goalie Marc-Andre Fleury.
