NHL Trade

The Montreal Canadiens lost their eighth-straight game Thursday but rookie winger Cole Caufield fed off the energy of new interim head coach Martin St. Louis.

Earlier in the day, the Montreal Canadiens introduced St. Louis to the media and their fans and the Laval native promised creativity, fun, and work ethic.

Another NHL head coach walked the plank on Thursday in Edmonton.

That and more in the latest MHN Wrap:

Montreal Canadiens

Before their 5-2 loss to the Washington Capitals, the Montreal Canadiens introduced Martin St. Louis as their new interim head coach on Thursday and the hall of famer and 2004 Stanley Cup champion did not disappoint. St. Louis plans to be demanding but is also focused on making a demoralized Habs team have fun playing the game they love again.

Montreal Canadiens winger Cole Caufield scored his first goal in 17 games and couldn’t believe he was playing for the player he wore 26 for as a kid.

National Hockey Now

Virginia native and Little Caps alum Joe Snively scored his first two NHL goals for the Washington Capitals Thursday against the Habs.

It’s looking more and more like Tomas Hertl won’t be traded before the March 21 NHL Trade Deadline.

Are the New York Islanders opening their offense up?

The Carolina Hurricanes spanked the Boston Bruins again with a 6-0 win in Boston.

The Florida Panthers are the best team in the Eastern Conference and arguably the NHL. So what and who should the Cats be targeting at the NHL trade deadline to win their first playoff round since 1996?

Cammi Granato became the second female NHL assistant general manager on Jim Rutherford’s Vancouver Canucks hockey staff. She joins Emilie Castonguay, the French Canadian lawyer and analytics specialist who was hired on January 24th.

Beware of the Calgary Flames, that’s all I’ll say.

NHL

Dave Tippett became the second NHL head coach in as many days to be fired as Edmonton Oilers general manager Ken Holland had that ‘gut feeling’ it was time for a change.

The lads on TSN Insider Trading discussed that and the potential of Vinny Lecavalier joining the Habs hockey ops department in some capacity, and where Mark Giordano ends up before the NHL trade deadline. What about carrying the puck down ice mid-air?

NHL Network analyst E.J. Hradek found himself in a firestorm after trashing former Canadiens head coach Dominique Ducharme on Twitter.
